Channel 4's Sunday Brunch stars explain why they chose THAT picture of DMU hockey players for their official calendar

The stars of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch have sent a personal message congratulating DMU’s men’s hockey team for making it into the show’s official calendar for 2015.

And the show’s producer has passed on her best wishes on behalf of her team for when DMU play arch rivals The University of Leicester in their crunch Varsity game in March.

Presenters Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer, whose mischievous take on cookery and chat shows attracts an audience of millions every Sunday morning, have said the team look like a “lovely bunch of lads”.

We revealed last week how the cheeky photo of DMU’s men’s hockey players caught the attention of the Sunday Brunch team – and earned the students the title of Team of the Year in the calendar.

The photo, which shows the players posing in the nude in their local pub, complete with a man in a pig outfit (!) was sent in after presenters Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer appealed for funny pics.

The snap was originally taken for DMU Hockey Club’s 2013 calendar to raise money for their teams.

In typically irreverent fashion Tim Lovejoy said: “They just seem a lovely bunch of guys - outgoing, fun and well groomed.

“In fact Simon and I spent a long time discussing who we thought was the longest in the shower.”

Simon added: “Who better to represent a beautiful cross section of our wonderful student population!”

Sunday Brunch producer Erin McPartland added: “We loved the picture and it was great to have the De Montfort hockey team be a part of the Sunday Brunch Calendar. Please wish the team best of luck in the Varsity match.”

The DMU men’s hockey players featured in the calendar told last week how they were shocked but also overjoyed to get themselves some national attention on a programme watched by millions every Sunday morning on Channel 4.

Fans of the show can download the calendar from the Sunday Brunch website.

DMU Hockey Club chairman Liam Egan-Rayner, a third year studying Product Design, said at the time: “Everyone is a bit shocked, but pretty chuffed too. A few of the players have left the university since the photo was taken but it is going around their friends and family on social media and they love it. Although it is fair to say it has been met with horror by some!”
