Close to 50 overseas opportunities available with #DMUglobal in one of largest offerings of trips to date
Almost 50 overseas opportunities have gone live on the #DMUglobal website for students at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) in what is one of the largest offerings of trips to date!
The #DMUglobal trips will see hundreds of students travel overseas between January and March 2019 taking part in opportunities created to enrich studies, broaden cultural horizons and to develop key skills valued by employers.
Students from all faculties can choose from opportunities in locations such as Hong Kong, Morocco, Argentina, United Arab Emirates, France, Bulgaria and Finland. There are also a number of volunteering trips organised by DMU Square Mile India, whose work helps transform the lives of some of the poorest communities in Gujarat.
First year Architecture students have the opportunity to enhance their studies with visits to Barcelona, Porto, Amsterdam and Rome. Elsewhere, second year Architecture students have the chance to bring their studies to life helping develop designs to modify homes in the Loving Community - one of the poorest parts of India, protecting residents from devastating floods.
DMU Law students will be collaborating with the University of Central Florida and putting into practice their legal skills by participating in the AMTA Mock Trial Regional Tournament.
Shared virtual learning with students from the University of Chicago will prepare Criminology students to collaborate with their peers when they visit Chicago in January 2019. While there, the students will explore ways in which the local community and the University of Chicago support disaffected young people.
VFX, Media and Animation students will visit Tokyo in a trip which will allow students to engage with some of the most important media, VFX and animation centres in South East Asia – if not, in the world!
BA International Relations student Sagheer Nasrulla has visited Ahmeddabad with DMU Square Mile India.
He said: “We had an amazing trip full of positive experiences at the Ghandi Ashram. We learnt a lot about different cultures and languages. I made a lot of new friends, and also improved my communication and teamwork skills.”
As part of the University’s #DMUworks programme, which helps students to develop professional skills to prepare them for the world of work, a trip to New Orleans has been organised for students interested in a career in freelancing.
As part of this unique visit, students will have the chance to take part in Freelance Friday, a co-working community of freelancers that brings together independents, creatives and entrepreneurs. This trip is open to all faculties.
All eligible students who are accepted onto an overseas #DMUglobal experience will qualify for a bursary - £150 for a European visit, and £400 for an opportunity outside of Europe. Full details of the application process, as well as tips for writing a strong application can be found here.
