Module description

This module examines planning and sustainability in a wide context and takes on board two main facets:

1. Social planning and sustainability 

2. Environmental sustainability

Please note that economic sustainability is covered in a separate module - Finance and Housing Markets.

Indicative content Social planning and sustainability 1. Impact of credit crunch on the housing bubble 2. Current shortage of homes and a continued projected shortage. 3. Social impacts, for example on homelessness. 4. Social and demographic change 5. Analysis of role of housing Professionals Environmental Sustainability 6. Sustainability agenda, for example the failure of world leaders to agree a way forward after the Rio Summit in June 2012. 7. Balancing the need for new homes for social sustainable development. 8. Green spaces. 9. ‘Green buildings’ concept where house building is needed. 10. Planning for social and environmental sustainability.
