Course: Project Management MSc
From: Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabian student, Abdulrahman Alqhtani joined De Montfort University (DMU) in September 2015, studying Project Management MSc degree. When asked why he decided to study Project Management MSc at DMU he explained “Businesses all over the world need employees with the skills that the Project Management course provides you with. These include product development, strategic thinking, change management, software development and even management.”
The Project Management MSc course allows students to engage with the current theory and practice of project management and develop an advanced level of skills relevant to industry. Abdulrahman talks about his favourite features on the course. He said “I really enjoyed studying the research methodology module. It explored how to conduct research in a business with limited resources and with ethical, legal and social constraints. The module also taught me how to collect data for research, which taught me how to present both qualitative and quantitative data.”
Learn from academics with industry experience
He also spoke highly of the teaching staff and how their experiences in industry has an impact with his learning, “The academics who teach me are expert leaders in this field and some of them use their industry experience to provide practical examples to help me understand the theory taught in class.”
First-class learning facilities
Learning in the purpose-built £35 million Hugh Aston Building, Abdulrahman is delighted with the facilities that are available to him and is using them effectively. “The Faculty of Business and Law is in a modern building with excellent facilities including spaces for group work; quiet study zones for individual work; computer labs; a bookshop; and a café. My favourite facility are the big lounges for meetings which they also use for festivals with large groups.”
Study in one of England's 10 largest cities
As a student in Leicester, you will get to experience one of England’s 10 largest cities and the region’s largest economy. Leicester is also one of the most multicultural cities in the UK which will help you feel more at home. The city centre is just a five minute walk from campus, meaning you can enjoy everything right on your doorstep. Abdulrahman said “The people around campus and Leicester are very nice and kind. There are people from different backgrounds, countries, religions and cultures, so I have learned a lot, which has helped me, develop as a person.”
When asked if he would recommend studying abroad at DMU he answered “Yes, because the experience is unique, the quality of teaching is excellent, Leicester City is a nice place to live and I feel comfortable at both DMU and in Leicester City.”
Talking about his future career plans, Abdulrahman explained “I want to achieve a high grade on my course and then develop my own business. I hope the theory I learned on the course and the experience I have gained during my time at DMU will help me to become successful, because I want my children to be able to experience higher education.”
Lastly, if he could offer advice to prospective international students he would say “just do it and take the chance to explore new things, you will not regret it.”
