DMU Staff Common Room
The Staff Common Room is open to members only. Membership runs between the 1st April to 31st March of each year inclusive. You may purchase membership provided that you are a full time, part time, permanent or temporary member of staff, employed by DMU, as well as agency and associated workers commissioned by DMU. The proceeds of the membership fee will be used by the Staff Common Room Committee, to improve the space and enhance the offer to its members, in consultation with the membership. It is also being used to maintain and support the running of the facility.
The cost of membership is based on a four tier system, linked to staff pay grades.
Tier 1 – Pay scale levels up to the top of D (currently £26,243 per annum): £10 per annum
Tier 2 – Pay scale levels above the top of D up to the top of G (currently £27,025 to £48,677 per annum): £20 per annum
Tier 3 – Pay scale level above the top of G up to the top of H (currently £50,132 to £58,089 per annum): £30 per annum
Tier 4 – Staff with an annual gross salary above the top of H (currently 59,828 per annum): £40 per annum
Staff working 0.5FTE or less will automatically be placed into Tier 1. Staff members working above 0.5FTE will be placed into the tier which matches their pro-rata taxable annual salary.
The Staff Common room is located within the catering area of the Vijay Patel Building; with the opening hours of 07:30-18:30 Monday to Friday (during term time) and 07:30-17:30 Monday to Friday (outside term time).
Food & Drink
Membership of the Staff Common Room entitles colleagues to take advantage of subsidised, freshly-prepared tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Coffee and hot chocolate will be charged at 75p per cup, which is the cost price to the university and offers the lowest comparable price for coffee and hot chocolate available at any catering outlet across the campus. Tea is charged at 65p per cup.
There will also be a variety of soft drinks and alcholic drinks (during set times only) availabe to purchase. In this space members can also purchase a wide selection of food on the menu, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner.

How do I join the Staff Common Room
For new members, or for those renewing their membership please visit DMU Online Store and purchase the tier, relative to your pay grade (as detailed above). Each application will be checked to ensure that the appropriate payment has been made, relative to your pay grade.
Access to the Staff Common Room is via restricted ID card authorisation. For both new membership and renewal, please be aware that we will require at least 1 day's notice to authorise your DMU ID card. For current members, access will be removed at midnight on 31st March, unless you have submitted your renewal.
