Staff and students from across DMU and its transnational education (TNE) partners are coming together to share their experiences and achievements within higher education, as part of a special online event for International Women’s Day (IWD).
Hosted by DMU’s Global Partnership Unit, the two-hour event will feature a series of guest speakers from DMU, its Dubai campus and its international partners, including Asia Pacific University (APU) in Malaysia, Southville International School Affiliated with Foreign Universities (SISFU) in the Philippines and Niels Brock Business College in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The programme is designed around this year’s IWD’s theme, Give to Gain and will explore how giving support, amplifying women’s voices and working collectively can drive meaningful progress toward gender equality.
Dr Dyneshia Johnson, Associate Professor, Faculty of Business and Law, is opening the programme and said: “It is important to take time to celebrate the thought leadership and innovative contributions of women, viewed through our unique lens and experiences.”
Professor Lisa Stansbie, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Education, Equalities and Student Experience will lead the opening address.
The programme will also highlight the work of Ayesha Khan, who founded FOOD ATM in Dubai in 2019 to provide affordable meals to low-income families, and DMU student Damari Kota, who travelled to Tanzania last year to teach women how to make shoes sustainably to support their families.
Damari worked with Perfect Vision Women Tanzania, a not-for-profit non-government organisation aimed at tackling poverty through education, and taught 15 women, aged 15 to 37, with tool kits containing essential shoemaking equipment.
Ayesha’s FOOD ATM business feeds thousands of people each day across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with her meals contributing towards the No Poverty and Zero Hunger Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This is a free event and open to all staff and students of both DMU and its TNE partners.
