As part of Trans Awareness Week, De Montfort Students’ Union are inviting students and staff to a presentation about ‘How to be a Trans Ally.’
The talk will take place on Friday 15 November from 1-2pm at The Campus Centre, Function Room 2.
Delivered by Roisin Forde, LGBTQ+ Representative at DSU, the talk will give staff and students the opportunity to learn more about the transgender community and the issues they face on a regular basis.
Roisin said the talk is "vital to inclusivity, and that it’s here as a training tool, but also to gain personal information if you just want to know about the subject".
Diya Rattanpal, Equality and Diversity Executive at DSU said “The event is being held, as not only is it Trans Awareness Week, but it’s also the International Day of Tolerance.
“Our aim is to challenge any unconscious bias and to create a safe and supportive community for trans people.
“It’s a fantastic day for us all to sit down and have a conversation, in a safe environment about a topic we don’t actually seem to talk about.
“We’ll also be handing out pronoun badges to all that attend, to help normalise the practice of sharing pronouns and help trans people remember that they are valid, and that we recognise the importance of their gender identity."
