Welcome to the DMU Rocket Round Leicester Rewards!
De Montfort University is delighted to be working with LOROS Hospice for the Rocket Round Leicester event this summer.
This design is inspired by the hosiery factories that led the ‘Leicester Clothes the World’ industrial period which spanned from the 1930’s until the 1970’s. Drawing on research found in the Leicester University Affective Digital Histories, Oliva and Lauren (Pickle Illustration) were interested in the factory life for women working in Leicester city centre and listened to audio files of the women who worked in the factories to inspire their illustrations. Their design features a machinist ‘badge of honour’ for workers first needle injury, decorating the factory for Christmas and the hardworking women who ‘clothed the world’.
Both Midlands born, Olivia and Lauren met at Loughborough University whilst studying Graphic Communication and Illustration. Wanting to become freelance illustrators, they teamed up to bring Pickle Illustration into the world. Their aims include helping local businesses and communities to have a creative edge. Olivia and Lauren have worked on many projects including; mural and painted sculptures for Fosse Park, a Thank You postcard for the MET Office, illustrations for Leicester’s Journeys Festival and illustrations for Explora Children’s Festival in Rome. The pair also run workshops for businesses and community groups.

Rocket Round Leicester is a spectacular public art event that weaves its way across the city in summer 2021. Giant Rocket sculptures, each one individually designed by an artist and sponsored by a business, form a free, fun, family-friendly trail of discovery for local people to explore and enjoy. At the end of the event the amazing sculptures will be auctioned to raise vital funds for LOROS Hospice (Registered Charity No 506120).
The event has been created by Wild in Art together with LOROS Hospice
