Meet the Global Partnerships Unit team
Lawrence D'Souza, Director of International
Lawrence D'Souza is a Director with responsibility for the Global Partnership Unit and the International Office. The Global Partnership Unit is responsible for the development and management of Trans National Education (TNE) activity within DMU.
Lawrence joined DMU in May 2018. For over a decade he previously held various roles in Coventry University including Lecturer, Internationalisation Manager and Deputy Director for Academic Partnerships. While at Coventry he built TNE activity across the University Group.
He is an experienced strategic and results driven leader with over 13 years’ experience in developing academic partnerships across the world.
Lawrence holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University and a MBA from Coventry University.

Neil Hart, Head of Transnational Education
Neil Hart is the Head of Transnational Education (TNE) within the Global Partnerships Unit (GPU). He has oversight of the university’s TNE activities, ensuring smooth transition of new partnership developments into mainstream GPU and faculty-based workstreams.
Neil joined DMU in 2021 and has worked in Higher Education since 1996 with more than a decade in TNE roles setting up and managing international and UK based partnerships for Staffordshire University and Coventry University.
He has lived and worked in a number of Sub-Saharan African countries including Zimbabwe, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo and began his career in education working as a voluntary Physics teacher under the auspices of Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) in the Western Region of Ghana.
Neil has a PhD in Engineering and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Kerry Harrison, Collaborative Partnerships Manager
Kerry Harrison is Collaborative Partnerships Manager within the Global Partnership Unit at DMU. Kerry has responsibility for the management and operation of the university’s transnational education partnerships.
Kerry joined DMU in 2009 and is a former DMU student having graduated with a first class honours degree in BA (Hons) Government, Management and Public Policy.

Carly Hoey, Global Partnerships Officer
Carly Stonehouse is a Global Partnerships Officer within the Global Partnership Unit at DMU. Helping to co-ordinating the university’s engagement with transnational education (TNE) and overseas recruitment partnerships, her key areas include franchise arrangements and progression agreements.
Carly joined DMU in June 2020 and has over ten years experience within the UK and international education sector. Carly moved from a leadership position at a leading state school in the UK to an educational company in Oxford where she developed and managed the delivery of academic programmes in the UK and South East Asia.
Carly graduated from Nottingham Trent University where she studied BA Hons(History and International Relations and holds a PGCE from University of Exeter.
Katie Warren, Global Partnerships Officer
Katie Warren is a Global Partnerships Officer within the Global Partnership Unit at DMU. Helping to co-ordinating the university’s engagement with transnational education (TNE) and overseas recruitment partnerships, her key areas include franchise arrangements and progression agreements.
Katie joined DMU in April 2018 and has worked in further and higher education within Academic Services and Registry Services.
Katie graduated from Nottingham Trent University where she studied BSc (Hons) Sports Science and Management.

Patrizia Deidda, Global Partnerships Officer
Patrizia Deidda is a Global Partnerships Officer within the Global Partnership Unit at DMU. Helping to co-ordinating the university’s engagement with Transnational Education (TNE) and overseas recruitment partnerships, her key areas include franchise arrangements and progression agreements.
Patrizia joined the team in September 2019 and has previously been working with the Global Mobility office here at DMU.
Patrizia holds a Bachelor's degree in Art & Tourism from the University of Cagliari in Italy, and a Master's in International Relations from Nottingham Trent University.

Duncan Hepworth, Partnerships Development Manager
Duncan Hepworth works as Partnership Development Manager within the Global Partnership Unit and is responsible for identifying and developing new Transnational Education Partnerships. Duncan’s geographic area includes Africa, South East and East Asia and the Americas.
Duncan has over 20 years’ experience within the education sector both in the UK and overseas and has been with DMU since December 2017.
Before working at DMU, Duncan has worked in international higher and secondary education recruitment with education institutions and recruitment agents around the world for over five years.

Allister Smeeton, Head of Strategic Initiatives
Allister Smeeton is Head of Global Strategic Initiatives within the Global Partnerships Unit and is responsible for large-scale international strategic projects, such as Joint Schools and International Branch Campuses.
He also has operational responsibility for DMU’s international pathway college (De Montfort University International College, DMUIC).
Before joining DMU in 2018, Allister had worked at the University of Nottingham and at the University of Leicester in a range of commercially-focused roles. Prior to this, he had set up and run a number of high-tech start-up companies in the IT sector.
Allister graduated from the University of Leicester with a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Computational Chemistry.
Allister Smeeton works as Head of Strategic Initiatives within the Global Partnerships Unit.

India Gray, Global Partnerships Administrator
India Gray is the Global Partnerships Administrator within the Global Partnership Unit at DMU. India acts as PA to the Director of International and is a key point of contact and support for the unit.
India joined DMU firstly as a student and then professionally in February 2021. She has previously worked in customer service for The Times Newspaper.
India graduated from De Montfort University with a first class BA (Hons) degree in Drama.
