Pathways is a collaboration of the three Leicestershire universities: De Montfort University Leicester (DMU), University of Leicester and Loughborough University, with Leicester College, to support progression into higher education.

The three universities and Leicester College received government funding through the OFS Uni Connect Programme. Currently in its second delivery phase, the Pathways Steering Board oversees the investment of £1.3m of grant funding in a locally focused programme aimed at widening participation.
The Pathways Steering Board is looking to co-opt two new members who are independent of the partner universities or Leicester College. Given the localised and student focused mission of their work, they are particularly seeking people who:
- Work at a senior level within an organisation that aims to support young people to become successful and fulfilled adults, or within a Leicestershire or Rutland educational establishment, such as a secondary school or college
- Can provide insight and steer into how Pathways can best direct it’s resources to overcome the particular challenges faced by young people in Leicestershire region in accessing further or higher education
- Can provide knowledge and insight into other projects or organisations with a similar focus with whom Pathways should collaborate or ensure efforts are not duplicated.
The project is currently funded until July 2021 with the possibility of extension, dependant on the outcomes of the Government Spending Review.
For the remainder of this funding period the Steering Board will be overseeing the ambitious target of working closely with schools and colleges to engage with 1,200 students from areas where progression to HE (including apprenticeships) is low.
In addition, the partnership is currently developing an Outreach Hub with the aim of providing a credible, impartial and comprehensive platform for students, teachers and other supporters to access information and opportunities supporting progression into higher education.
The board meets on a bi-monthly basis for two hours.
