How does four weeks on an internship in Bangalore or studying at a summer school in South Korea sound? Perhaps investigating the Bauhaus movement in Weimar or volunteering in Fiji could be more your thing?
These are just some of the incredible life-changing opportunities being offered in the latest round of trips offered by the award-winning DMU Global team.

Applications have opened today for students at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) to make submissions for numerous trips specifically designed to broaden their cultural horizons, equip them with skills valued by employers and empower them to become a global citizen.
All trips also have generous bursaries attached to help make them more affordable.
The announcement comes as DMU prepares to mark its 10th birthday and celebrate the thousands of opportunities DMU students have had to travel to destinations far and wide.
There is a trip to study the Bauhaus movement in Berlin/Weimar
As part of the anniversary five DMU students, who applied for trips this spring, have been told their travel and accommodation is going to be paid for by DMU Global.
Needless to say, the winners are delighted with their prize.
Felix Austin-Ricketts, a final year Forensic Science student from Worcester, will be travelling to study global criminal justice in The Hague.
Felix said: “I am really excited about the trip. I have always wanted to go to The Hague and when I saw the opportunity I immediately applied. I thought ‘I have got to do that’.
“Now I have had the travel and accommodation paid for I can look forward to planning what I will do when I get there. There are incredible opportunities offered by DMU Global and I know there are not many universities who do anything like it on this scale. It’s brilliant.”
Cirencester student Bee Rowlands, who is in her final year studying Psychology with Health and Wellbeing, is looking forward to a trip to Paris to look into the history of medicine which will help her while studying a cognitive neuropsychology module.
Summer schools are also being run in Alicante, Spain
It includes visits to museums to study the workings of the human brain as well as a trip to the Musee d’Orsey to see a Monet painting commissioned by the mayor of Paris to raise the profile of mental health.
She said: “It is really cool to win. DMU Global is so good. I would say to anyone who hasn’t applied yet to just go for it.”
Allia Duta, a first year architecture student from Loughborough, is going to Amsterdam. She said: “I think it is amazing that we get to travel during our course and enjoy trips that help our studies. I am so excited to be going to Amsterdam.”
The deadline for applications for the latest round of trips is Monday 5 February.
Some of the highlights include:
- Internships – spend 4-weeks interning in Bangalore or Bali, immersing yourself in the rich culture and gaining unique work experience, develop skills and build your network.
- Summer schools – study for 2-4 week at one of our partner universities in Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Spain, South Korea and China.
- Volunteering – have a meaningful impact across the globe ranging from teaching English in Bangkok, supporting women’s education in Tanzania, or community development in Fiji.
- Academic trips - opportunities for psychology students to visit Malaysia, Nursing student to explore Amsterdam and Marketing students to learn more about tourism in Dubai.
DMU Global applicants could stay in Malaysia
There will be a series of drop-in sessions for any students who have questions about DMU Global before the deadline.
They take place in the Campus Centre ground floor between 11am and 2pm on Monday 15 and Thursday 18 January, Monday 22 and Thursday 25 January and Monday 29 and Thursday 1 February.
To help make overseas opportunities more accessible, there is a DMU Global Bursary available for successful applicants to help cover costs, amounting to £150 each for trips to Europe and £400 each for trips outside of Europe.
There is also additional financial support available for students who qualify for Widening Participation Funding, including those with disabilities, those from low-income households or students with a background in care.
The deadline to apply for these opportunities is Monday 5 February 2024 9am and further details can be found on the DMU Global website.
