All aboard! DMU Global launches the latest range of international experiences for students

How would you like to experience new cultures, exchange ideas with people from around the world, study a new language or get to grips with pressing environmental issues through the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

Applications are now open for De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) students to participate in this wide range of international opportunities through the award-winning DMU Global team.

DMU Global is able to offer these exciting learning experiences for free or at a low cost, with hundreds of places available to ensure that as many students as possible can participate.

You can sign up to the DMU Global mailing list to be first to hear about opportunities throughout the year.

DMU Global’s newest offering - Virtual International Experiences - gives students the chance to develop a range of skills through collaborating and working with peers in an international setting, without the need to travel. These online opportunities offer the chance to learn about a range of global and local issues.

Third-year Psychology with Criminology student Haleema Riaz, who participated in last year’s online Global Citizenship Programme, said: “It was an extraordinary experience to learn from and work in teams with students from other universities. The most enjoyable part for me was thinking outside of box and using my presentation skills”.

The latest opportunities on offer include:

Take part in a Business Challenge with Common Purpose

This Business Challenge is an immersive online session for up to 30 students who will work with an organisation to tackle a real-life challenge. Digitally immerse yourself in an organisation and learn how to tackle and address a real-life organisational challenge.

Application deadline: Monday 11 October 2021, 9am

Learn about the global refugee crisis with DMU Local

The purpose of the course is to engage students in the conversation about the global refugee crisis. A number of speakers from DMU, as well as those from external organisations will contribute to this learning activity.

Application deadline: Monday 11 October 2021, 9am

Complete a virtual internship with organisations in Fiji

Take part in a 12 to 16 week virtual internship where you’ll be connected with real life projects supporting communities in the Fijian islands. DMU Global is offering 20 fully funded places (at a value of £350).

GLOBAL MAIN 07.10.21

In addition, to these online experiences, DMU students can once again take part in a range of campus-based international experiences that will take place in term one. This year there is the chance to study a range of languages including French, German, Spanish, Arabic and Japanese over either 10-week period or an intensive week. Students can also choose to learn Mandarin at all levels through DMU’s Confucius Institute, based in the Vijay Patel building.

For those students who have dreams of travelling the world after graduating, there is the chance to gain a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification which will give you the skills and knowledge to teach English abroad. Both online and hybrid courses are available for DMU students to apply for by the deadline of Monday 25 October at 9am.
