Winter Grads 2020: DMU graduates make friends for life

They say university is where you make friends for life – and today’s graduates could not agree more as they clapped, hugged and cheered each other’s achievements.

Today it was the turn of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities to celebrate as hundreds of graduates crossed the stage to collect their hard-earned degrees.

Among them were best friends Ola Khayat and Basma Sabbahi who are both starting new careers as university lecturers after completing their PhD studies. Both are from Jeddah, but had not met until they began together at DMU.

Ola said: “We are best friends now, we have been there for each other. She has helped me through this, and it has been an amazing journey.”

“Not only have I got my PhD, but I have got my graduation with my best friend,” added Basma, whose families had flown over from Saudi to be at the ceremony.
