Your DMU Future – how DMU plans to re-open campus for the new academic year

De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) today unveils its latest plans for how next term will unfold in this most extraordinary of years.

Called Your DMU Future, our package of measures has all the very latest information on how studying with DMU will work come the start of term in October.

To ensure students can enjoy their university experience while observing government guidance, DMU has created a new way of learning, which blends online and on-campus elements.

This bold approach connects safe campus living, quality teaching, one-to-one time with academics and a great student experience, all within DMU’s diverse, inclusive and welcoming community.

Unveiled today as part of the package is a new Student Handbook which has been compiled in collaboration with our students and is an easy-to-read guide to the enhancements we have put in place.

Our De Montfort Students’ Union Academic Representation Officer Laura Flowers said: “As a super recent student myself, I have loved being involved in the creation of the Your DMU Future handbook.

“It has everything you need to know for joining us, including tips for settling in and making the most of your student experience!”

She added: “DSU is so excited to welcome everyone to DMU and say hello to the newest members of the Students’ Union!

“There is so much planned for everyone and we can’t wait to see everybody getting involved! We shall be announcing our new plans on social media very soon so keep an eye out.”

Every student will be able to access on-campus-elements as part of their DMU experience. To ensure the campus is safe, DMU has been working hard behind the scenes implementing thorough safety and hygiene measures across all buildings, including hand-sanitiser points, one-way systems, enhanced cleaning measures and more.

In addition, all students and staff will be issued with two re-usable face masks, in line with Government guidelines.

DMU already has a wide range of support and resources to help students prioritise health and wellbeing,  from mindfulness to masterclasses.

There is also ‘The Healthy DMU Hub’  a one-stop-shop for students to find out more about managing health and wellbeing at university. Support can be found on mental wellbeing, physical wellbeing and other handy top tips to support adjusting to university life.

As well as the handbook, students heading to DMU for the start of the new academic year on Monday 5 October will benefit from specially designed mini-module, which aims to fully prepare them for blended learning.

The handbook and mini module are designed to ensure students are supported as much as possible to thrive while learning online. The handbook is based around three key principles: Being prepared, being proactive and seeking support. There’s also plenty of top tips and self-assessment exercises to help students reflect on and develop their online skills.

The new three-hour interactive module will be delivered via the university’s Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard.

The module is designed as an extra support for students to think about their learning and different styles, while engaging in activities to help support their studies and ensuring a smooth start to blended learning when the academic year begins.
