Men’s Squash emphatically brushed aside Loughborough University on Wednesday afternoon to climb to the top of their British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) table.
De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) Squash Club clinched the #BUCSWednesday headlines once again with a victory, which went right to the wire in BUCS Squash Midlands Division 2B.
SQUASH
With the scores tied at 2-2, Vice-Chancellors Sports Scholar Charlie Major stepped up to take a fiercely fought final game and give Men’s Squash their fourth straight victory of the season.
Their 100% winning record in league and cup leaves them 3 points clear at the top of theirs BUCS division with their title dreams very much alive.
Men’s First Team Captain Chris Roberts said: “DMU Squash has come so far in the past couple of years and this result is testament to that.
“The effort shown by all the players on Wednesday shows how much we all want this title.
“We were very unlucky last year coming second and I think that loss has given us the willingness to improve.
“It takes a huge amount of desire to bounced back and perform like we have this year.
“We can’t get ahead of ourselves now though. We need to firmly focus on the next fixture.”
Men’s Squash Second Team were also victorious on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Oxford Brookes University 2nd 3-0 away from home.
RUGBY
Men’s Rugby First Team clinched their first win of the season in BUCS Rugby Midlands Division 2B.
The 2016/17 BUCS Midlands Conference Plate winners overcame the University of Northampton 1st 39-12.
David Nurse, First Team Co-Captain: “It was an all-round good game. We controlled the game and attacked well.
“Every player put in a shift and even the guys who came on helped guide us to a well-earned victory.”

BASKETBALL
Men’s Basketball First Team secured a much need victory on Wednesday evening away from home, their first of the season at the fifth attempt.
They edged a tight game 74-60 against Anglia-Ruskin University 1st.
It was also a good night for the Second Team who beat city rivals The University of Leicester 62-53 at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre.
Women’s Basketball are another who maintain at 100% winning record this BUCS season. They defeated the University of Cambridge 2nd at Leicester Riders, Leicester Arena.
FOOTBALL
Men’s Football First Team have hopes of a league title in BUCS Football Midlands Division 2A. They emphatically beat the University of Derby 3rd 5-0 at Beaumont Park, where the Football Association Company Secretary Richard McDermott was introduced to both teams before kick-off.
Women’s Football Second Team got their season back on track with an emphatic 13-0 victory away at Newman University 1st.
Dana Davey (5), Zara Goodlake (3), Emma Enico (2), Samiyaa Pandor (2) and Emma Pearson all made the scoresheet.
VOLLEYBALL
Men’s Volleyball lost their 100% winning record on Wednesday evening in a dramatic fixture edged 3-2 by Coventry University 1st.
Their flawless start to the season however, still leaves them in top spot in BUCS Volleyball Midlands Division 4A.
