Unbeaten Squash hunt down BUCS title success

Two De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) sports teams extended their flawless start to the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) season this week, scoring further convincing wins.

Men's Squash First and Second teams maintained their 100% league record this season to keep them firmly in the hunt for title success.

SQUASH

It was another testing #BUCSWednesday for #TeamDMU which ended with a win rate of just 37% with 11 wins and 17 defeats.

However, Men’s Squash offered a bright spark in what was a relatively disappointing week overall for our sides.

The First team travelled away to Warwick University 3rd in BUCS Midlands Division 2B overcoming their opposition 5-0.

The victory leaves them in second place, behind Loughborough 2nd only on points difference.

DMU Squash Chairman Daniel Brown, said: “I was with the team watching at Warwick and it was an amazing match to watch, the whole team didn’t set a foot wrong.

“Warwick are a strong side and all of the lads played superbly and it just shows the confidence and momentum we have.”

In BUCS Midlands Division 3A, the Men’s Second team also maintained their winning form with a 3-0 win over University of Birmingham 2nd.

Like the First team, they also currently miss out on top spot to city rivals Leicester 1st, but the pair are still to meet each other later in the season.

Daniel added: “This result is a sign that hard work is paying off, with training, strength and condition and spin classes.

“Both of our teams are currently undefeated and it just shows the strength and depth we have in the club and it is an amazing feat considering it is the first time DMU have entered a Men’s Second team.”

TABLE TENNIS

Men’s Table Tennis continued their 100% record with another whitewash away at Anglia Ruskin University 1st.

This is their first season competing in BUCS competitions and to add, they have yet to concede a single set in BUCS Midlands Division 3A.

Reacting to their 17-0 victory, Club Chairman Sam Henderson said: “It was important we built on our great start to the season away at Anglia Ruskin.

“Although the score looked comprehensive it was in fact a much closer game.

“We sit nicely at the top of our BUCS league and we are now focusing our attention on next week’s cup game against a Nottingham Trent side who are in a higher division.”
