Peter offered graduate role with IBM before finishing his studies

A Business and Management student had the perfect end to exams this year – a job offer from IBM’s graduate programme the day after his final paper.

Peter Hunt, 24, from Melton, is set to graduate this summer from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) and begin a job with the global company’s Business Consultant graduate scheme, based in London.



He will be working with the leadership team, using the skills he gained during his studies and placement year to provide financial insights and reports, engage with global stakeholder groups and work with IBM’s commercial teams.

Peter said: “I’m incredibly excited to have secured such a fantastic job before graduation. I received the offer from IBM the day after my last exam, so felt glad that I could relax over the summer knowing I had the perfect role to look forward to in August. 

I have worked exceedingly hard over the past three years, so it feels great that the hard work is finally starting to pay off.”

Peter chose Business and Management to study a broad range of modules and subjects, which he felt would give him a compelling mix of experience and studies for his chosen career path in management consultancy.

 He was also attracted by opportunity of spending a year in industry on placement. He said: “I felt this would further develop my learning, and would act as a real opportunity to put theory into practice.”

Peter praised the work of DMU’s Business and Law Placement Unit, which helps students apply and find placements which will advance their studies. Peter ended up with several offers and finally chose Pera Consulting. He took advantage of the £100 Employability Award to help towards travelling to interviews and assessment centres.

During his time at DMU, Peter took part in a #DMUglobal visit to Copenhagen as part of his course, visiting a partner university.

He said he has thoroughly enjoyed his time at DMU: “My favourite aspect of the course has been the freedom to choose my modules according to both my interests and to those I felt would benefit me in my career. This paired with the level of support received from lecturers and tutors has made for an incredibly rewarding learning experience.


“Another highlight has been meeting a variety of likeminded people, and creating relationships that will stretch beyond graduating, with the potential to collaborate in the graduate workplace.

"I’d like to give special thanks to several members of the Business and Law Faculty, specifically Nas Harrison, David Gordon and Chris Odindo, who all provided an abundance of guidance and support during my final year of study both academically and in terms of employability.”
