Looking to improve at work? DMU's new professional coaching course is for you

Professionals can exploit their raw potential at work and boost their careers with a new course being launched by De Montfort University Leicester (DMU).

The Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Coaching will run at the prestigious Leicester Castle Business School at DMU from the end of September - and there's still time to apply.

The cutting-edge content explores topics including human psychology, ethics and organisational applications of coaching. There will also be a programme of talks from guest speakers, and students will be encouraged to take the skills they learn back into the workplace.

It’s ideal for experienced professionals with a managerial or leadership role in their own organisations who want to build and refine their skills, said course director Sonya Shellard.

“It’s a life- and career-enhancing course to join,” she said. “You’ll build both competence and confidence.  And by the end, you’ll know yourself far better than you did.

“It’s all about releasing untapped potential and removing obstacles to development. And that slots right into the DMU ethos of Dare To Be: Dare to be the best you can.”

The one-year, part-time course will be based in the historic Great Hall of Leicester Castle, parts of which date from the 12th century. “It’s a totally inspiring location,” said Sonya, who has more than 20 years’ experience as a trainer, consultant and executive coach.

The Grade II listed surroundings are not the only attribute that sets the DMU course apart.

“We are different from other coaching courses because we are embedded in a business school in the TEF gold-rated De Montfort University,” said Sonya.

“This course will be highly interactive, with a big focus on experiential learning,” said course tutor, Lucy Mullins.
