Thousands call Clearing hotline to secure a place at DMU

Thousands of calls have been made to De Montfort University Leicester’s (DMU’s)  Clearing phone lines as A-level students get in touch to secure a place at one of the fastest growing universities in the country.

Between 8am on Thursday, when A-level results were released, and 10am on Friday, there had been nearly 7,000 calls to DMU’s 0116 257 7000 hotline number from A-level students keen to secure a place.

A total of 400 staff and students have been on hand to answer 300 phone lines taking calls at a rate of one every four seconds in the biggest call centre set-up DMU has ever had. By 10am on Friday, the call teams had logged a total of 959 hours on the phones. It would take someone working an average 37-hour week almost seven months to clock up the same number of hours.

Jamie Bradford, DMU School and College Liaison Manager, has stressed there are still places available at the university and plenty of staff to speak to about your options.

For the next two days anyone interested in becoming a DMU student can:

  • Call 0116 257 7000 and speak to an advisor. Phone lines are open until 6pm today and 9am to 4pm tomorrow
  • Come direct to the campus Visitor Centre in Hawthorn Building to organise a campus tour, look at accommodation, speak to academics and potentially secure a place face-to-face
  • Visit www.dmu.ac.uk/clearing  for up-to-the-minute details of courses available and the number of points required to secure a place.

Jamie said: “Places are still available. Take your time, do not panic but do try to call sooner rather than later.

“The call centre set-up is the biggest we have ever had and it is working incredibly well. Everything is fluid and we are answering a huge number of calls. So we are confident your queries will be dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
