Farm animals have been helping students to de-stress before their upcoming exams.
Three-week-old lambs, hens, ducks, a donkey called Dec and pygmy goat Gizmo were all in Mill Lane opposite the Campus Centre for students to pet and hold.
Tanvir Allidina, Mechatronics student, got to hold a lamb. She said: “I’ve got exams coming up in April so this is definitely helping! I love animals and this is a great idea.”
De Montfort Students’ Union’s welfare team organised the visit from Ark Farm as part of Mind Your Head Week, a series of events aimed at getting students fully prepared for exams without feeling anxious.
Rebecca Robson, DSU Vice-President Welfare, said: "It’s great to be able to do something a bit out of the box and raise awareness of the different ways you can combat stress, especially around the exam period. Sometimes it can be tough dealing with all the things that students have to contend with, so it was great to be able to put on Mind Your Head Week to help students cope. Ark Farm has been brilliant, and so many students have reacted positively, which is great to see!"
Biomedical Science second year student Chris Love said: "It's really brilliant. I study Biomedical Science so it's pretty much all exams and this is a great ide! I've got a dog at home in Hull but I only see him when I go back and I miss him so to see the animals here today is great."
Footwear design student Bethany Roberts said: “I've not got exams but I've got my final project coming up and that's pretty tough! It's not eased the pressure but I do have a smile on my face now from seeing the animals!"
Tomorrow (weds) there will be smoothie bikes on campus, as well as meditation classes, boxing sessions, guide dogs visiting the library. On Thursday there is a film day in DSU Lounge, coffee house sessions at The Lobby while on Friday there are knitting and calculator top tips.
