The students, who attend DMU’s Leicester International Pathway College (LIPC), make up the new society committee and are inviting members to join from all over the world.

The college, which opened in June 2014, is providing pathways for international students to prepare them for entry to DMU degree programmes.

Abdullah Alhuwaidi, one of the starting committee members and a Kuwaiti student on LIPC’s International Foundation Certificate (IFC) Business programme joining BA Politics later this year, said: “Every student in DMU is welcome to join the Kuwaiti society. I would like to organise events and activities to showcase and introduce other students to the Kuwaiti culture.

"My experience in Leicester and DMU has been amazing and I want to help new students to adapt to their new life here."

Making up part of the university’s diverse population of students from more than 130 countries, there are currently more than 20 Kuwaiti students at LIPC.

Reem Alshatti, studying IFC Business, before going on to BA Accounting and Finance, said: “Being at DMU has been a new and exciting experience. It’s an honour for me to be part of the first Kuwaiti Society at DMU.”

The Kuwaiti Society is overseen by De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) which now offers students more than 120 societies as well as 40 sports clubs to choose from in order to enhance their experience whilst studying at DMU.
