Students set to benefit as DMU strengthens links with Chinese educational organisation

Students are set to benefit from a new progression agreement signed between De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) and the Dongfang International Center for Educational Exchange in China.

The center is run by the China Scholarship Council to help Chinese students wanting to study abroad, and also offers bursaries to students aiming to study in China.

The new agreement formalises the close working relationship established between Dongfang and DMU’s Faculty of Business and Law.

It was signed by DMU’s James Gardner, Pro Vice Chancellor Strategic and International Partnerships and Shen Xiuyun, deputy director of the Dongfang International Center (pictured above)

Mr Gardner said: “DMU enjoys strong links with China through our international student cohort and academic partnerships.
Our new progression agreement increases the opportunities for more international students to come to DMU and enjoy an outstanding student experience in the Faculty of Business and Law.”

This year DMU welcomed record numbers of international students to the university, further adding to the diversity of the campus. Leicester itself is already one of the most diverse cities in the UK and is a popular destination for international students because of its reputation as a welcoming, safe environment and location.

During the day the Chinese delegates had a tour of the £35million Hugh Aston building and met with senior lecturers including Charles Stevens.

Under the terms of the progression agreement, students from the Dongfang International Center can progress onto specified undergraduate programmes at DMU in its Leicester Business School subject to them meeting set grades and required grades and English standard.

Lecturers from DMU will visit the Dongfang International Center to deliver guest lectures and vice versa as part of the agreement and regular exchange visits will take place.

Shen Xiuyun said: “The presentation from the School of Business and Law and the introduction of your language centre did give us a much better understanding of DMU.

“Dongfang is pleased to establish a partnership relation with DMU in developing international education at all levels.

“It's very important that both of us are committed to making joint efforts in promoting international education in China to attract more Chinese students to study in DMU which provides quality education and leads to a good career path.”
