Lucky Linh is shaping her future thanks to a fantastic scholarship


Vietnamese student at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has been given the chance to study at the university thanks to a prestigious all-expenses paid scholarship.

Selected from worldwide entries, Linh Dieu Le won the DMU Square Mile International Scholarship due to her passion for corporate social responsibility, a practice which encourages businesses to consider legal and ethical standards.

Linh, who is studying an International Business and Corporate Social Responsibility MSc at DMU, said: “I strongly believe that business is for social good. I feel very honoured to win the scholarship, it opens a great opportunity for me to study in my favourite subject and contribute to the local community at the same time.”

Enjoying her experience in the UK, she continued: “I have the chance to meet and work with amazing people here. My positive outlook on life has been nourished every day and the staff at DMU are very helpful and friendly.”

Linh plans to become a corporate social responsibility expert in the future and said: “My degree is helping me have a clearer plan for my future career. I want to spread the spirit of doing good in business and guide SMEs in my country.”

An active volunteer alongside her studies, she has helped out with DMU Square Mile projects including the Stem Cell Campaign, Social Media Café and the Christmas lunch. She said: “The best part of volunteering is meeting strangers who give you other thoughts on life.”

When she first arrived, Linh registered with DMU’s International Student Buddy Scheme and says: “I made a very lovely friend from the i-Buddy scheme. She helped me with studying and living in the UK.”

Gaining every day from her experience at DMU, she said: “I think my way of thinking is the most important benefit gained from studying at DMU. I feel like I make progress every day.

“I can be more confident in my ability and always try my best for my future. DMU gives me so many opportunities to work, study and challenge myself.”

She continued: “There is a lively and active student life here which motivates me a lot. I have a lot of choices for extra activities which helps me build up my soft skills and experiences. I think after one year, I could be a better version of myself.”

On the benefits of travelling to a different country to study, Linh said: “You are more independent and responsible for your life. You start to understand what you like, what you want, and what your future life should be.

“You become more mature in thinking and making decision. You are grateful for what you have.”

She added: “Now my friends are from all over the world. I learn from their culture, their behavior and their effort.”
