Buddy scheme for new international students!

DMU international i buddies

By coming to De Montfort University (DMU), students are embarking on an exciting and life-changing adventure, but may still need some help along the way. Coming to live in a new country is often exciting, though at first it can seem challenging or even a little stressful. Things can seem different from what you are used to in your own country, particularly if English is not your first language.

The aim of i-Buddies (our buddy scheme) is to match newly arrived international students with existing DMU students who have already been here for a year or more. We hope that the existing student Buddies will be able to help new arrivals to make new friends, learn about Leicester and settle into their new life in Leicester.

We are currently recruiting volunteers to befriend new international arrivals in September 2017.

How can I get involved as a volunteer buddy?

If you're already a DMU student and interested in volunteering as a buddy for a new international arrival, please complete our on-line application form.

You can learn more about the scheme here or if you have any questions you can contact us directly at

New students arriving in Autumn 2017

If you will be coming to DMU as a new student, we will email you in September about how to apply for a buddy. Or you can check here again then for more information on how to apply.
