As part of De Montfort University's Black History Month programme:
This event will be delivered in partnership with Leicester Cosmopolitan Arts and is suitable for anyone interested in all forms of discrimination and social justice, poetry, spoken word and performance, traditional African music, dance, and movement.
Based on Momodou Sallah’s poem Tribal Dance which gives racial discrimination waterlike properties able to morph, change shape, size, and form, over time, in order to continue to survive, dramatized in a 15 minutes video which Momodou wrote, starred and co-directed, alongside 2 other DMU alumni, incorporating singing, dancing, and the use of different African drums.
This evening will critically expose the structured natured of discrimination by exploring race as a microcosm, it will indulge the audience in the appreciation of poetry, movement and singing, but it will also ask searching questions about racial discrimination and other forms of oppressions.
Places can be booked up to one hour before the event starts and registrants will receive a confirmation up to 24 hours before the event.
Please contact the DMU Events Office on eventsoffice@dmu.ac.uk if you have any questions or if you have any special event requirements.
This event is open to all and will be hosted by Ayoola Hanley.
