This research event is based on a PhD research project on Community Resilience through creative arts, music and media. Big data analytics drawn from the 2011 Census show segmented socio-economic backgrounds, and the gendered nature of vulnerable key workers among SA’s, factors which influence life-work balance and mental well-being during the Covid-19 lockdown(s). Digital footprints tracked participation in Manav Utsav (Human Festival), a month-long digital family festival for the SA community in Leicester. Evaluation of 40k digital footprints showed engagement was international, supporting the argument that the SA diaspora is globally connected. Through this project applying an arts-based participatory research methodology will generate new and diverse evidence of vulnerability locked into global cultural relations. This research stems from the differential impact of the pandemic on life experiences, and the changing contextual indices of vulnerability under lockdown. Taking a cognitive approach contextualised within culturally sensitive needs and expectation will enable the researcher to identify how culturally- and age-appropriate arts participation can generate positive mental health. This event includes a panel discussion, followed by cultural performances and will include data collection.
