Course to provide students with a first introduction to Meta-Analysis. Delivered by Michel Lander, Associate Professor, Management and Human Resources Department, HEC Paris.
Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to provide students with a first introduction to meta-analysis. Students learn (i) the goal of the analysis and the results it can provide, (ii) the underlying statistical logic, (iii) when it should be used and (iv) what the limitations are. At the end of the course student should be able to carry out basic analyses.
Course Organization
There will be four sessions spread over February 27th until the 28th.
The course aims to teach the development of coding questionnaires, coding of studies and to show how the analysis of the data is done, how the conclusions can be drawn and how to present the findings, and thus give some indications on how to get published in a top management journal. The benefits and limitations of meta-analysis are discussed both in theory as well as during the empirical examples. You will be provided with a dataset you will use to run during the sessions.
Topics
The course will deal with the following statistical techniques.
Session 1 morning 27th of February
- Selection of topic and research proposition
- Collecting the studies
- Developing a coding questionnaire
- Coding
Session 2 afternoon 27th February
- Analysis of the data – ACMA/HOMA
- Analysis of the data – MARA/HMARA (1)
Session 3 morning 28th of February
- Analysis of the data – MARA/HMARA (2)
- Analysis of the data – MASEM (1)
Session 4 afternoon 28th February
- Analysis of the data – MASEM (2)
- Analysis of the data – fs/QCA
This schedule is flexible as the course is meant to be hands-on. Hence, the necessary time needed for each module will vary.
