Description
Dr Kate Carruthers-Thomas (Senior Research Fellow, Birmingham City University) - Mapping Careers in Higher Education, (refreshments provided)

In this two-hour workshop, participants will be invited to consider their experience of ‘career’ in the higher education sector in the context of prevailing career narratives eg: ladders, pipelines and trajectories.  We will use a simple mapping tool to explore our own potted career histories; to reflect on the factors which shape our working lives and to examine career archetypes and terminology more closely: the leaky pipeline, the glass ceiling, the glass cliff and the glass escalator.  This informal session is suitable for staff in all types of role in the university and at all stages in their working life.
