Personal profile

Dr. Young is a Vice Chancellor’s Early Career Fellow in the School of Allied Health Sciences at DMU. He completed his PhD in molecular medicine at the University of Portsmouth in the lab of Professor Darek Gorecki, where he investigated purinergic signalling responses in dystrophic muscle-immune interactions. His postdoctoral work, also at Portsmouth, expanded this new field, which now approaches clinical trials.

Dr Young has interests in skeletal muscle cell culture models; he intends to generate new in-vitro models of muscle atrophy, injury & aging at DMU. His research seeks novel insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying these phenomena, which could lead to new treatments, therapeutics & supplements to improve human health and longevity.
