Campus

If your child decides to live on campus, we understand that it’s a big adjustment for them – and for you. At DMU, they’ll find a safe, inclusive campus with everything they need on their doorstep. The best way to get a feel for campus is to visit us at an Open Day.

Safety and security

While the campus is in the city centre, it still gives students a sense of community. Everything is within walking distance and the campus is well lit to improve safety.

Our security team works closely with the Leicestershire Constabulary and its neighbourhood team, and we have an officer dedicated to the campus.

The security team is available 24/7 and carry out regular patrols of campus buildings and accommodation buildings, which have CCTV and entry access codes.

Campus services

Apart from the usual students’ union, food outlets, shops etc your child will be well supported on campus with everything they need.

Outside of the academic facilities and support, there’s:

  • a GP surgery
  • a leisure centre - Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre
  • free, recreational sports and activities
  • competitive sports fixtures and clubs
  • clubs and societies ranging from gaming to musical theatre
  • careers hub drop-in centre
  • a mental health team and resources
  • prayer spaces
  • IT facilities and support including free Wi-Fi and hardware loan service
  • a disability advice and support team
  • music practice spaces
  • Leicester Gallery – art and design exhibitions and student projects

Location

Your child will have the best of both worlds with a campus where everything’s in one place (from accommodation to lecture buildings) and also on the doorstep of the city centre. There’s lots of large and small supermarkets nearby and the bus and train station are within walking distance. Shops, restaurants, cinemas and leisure activities are all a short walk away.

Community and culture

Being a single campus gives students a sense of belonging and community because they’re all in the same space. The Students’ Union building is in the heart of campus with social spaces, shops, eating spots, and events.

DMU is a part of the local community and we support a range of events from the Riverside Festival and Leicester Comedy Festival to initiatives that encourage visitors to the area and raise funds for locally-based charities.
