Will BuckinghamDepartment of English and Creative WritingSenior Lecturer in Creative Writing![]() Contact Details I am Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing, and have experience in writing fiction, philosophy and online. I studied art history in Newcastle and anthropology in Durham and at Pattimura University, Indonesia, before taking a PhD in philosophy at Staffordshire University, where I also lectured in philosophy. My first novel, Cargo Fever, was published by Tindal Street Press in 2007, and I have recently finished my second, The Martyrdom of Ivan Gelski. I have also commissioned to write for BBC Radio 4. Current projects in fiction include a third novel, and an illustrated children's book for Scholastic. When not writing fiction, I continue to write philosophy in a more or less literary vein. My philosophy book, Finding Our Sea-Legs: Ethics, Experience and the Ocean of Stories, takes storytelling as a philosophical method, and was published by Kingston University Press in 2009. I am currently in the early stages of work towards a second philosophy book. I have recently contributed two chapters on contemporary and 20th century philosophy to Dorling Kindersley’s “The Philosophy Book.” I also write for the web, and my blog, thinkBuddha.org, was listed by the Sunday Times as one of the one hundred best blogs of 2009. I have research interests in creative writing; ethics, philosophy and literature; Chinese literature and philosophy; comparative literature; writing and technology. In 2010, I was awarded British Academy funding to undertake research for my third novel in China.
