When you arrive in Leicester, you can find your way to the De Montfort University Campus using the following map: http://www.dmu.ac.uk/aboutdmu/campuses/maps/leic_campus.jsp If you wish to use a taxi cab: ask for De Montfort University and Bonners Lane. On arrival please come to the Registration & Information desk to pick up your delegate pack which will include the Congress brochure. Registration: Monday 28 June, 9.00 am, Clephan buildingThe Clephan building is at the corner of Oxford Street and Bonners Lane and is marked as building number 4 on the Campus map above. The entrance to the Clephan Building can be found off Bonners Lane. The Registration & Information desk will be on the ground floor and will be clearly signposted. You will be provided with a name badge which you will need to wear at all times in order to gain access to Congress activities, performances etc. Important information regarding University accommodation: please note that no further bookings for accommodation in University Halls of Residence can be taken. If you have already confirmed a room in Halls, you will have been emailed further information, but please note in particular:
This Congress will provide a forum for the exchange of a wide range of global practices relating to theatre pedagogy within our universities. Our aim is to highlight recent debates, initiatives and innovative approaches to learning and teaching in theory and practice. Keynotes speakers for the Congress are David Edgar, internationally renowned playwright, and Helen Nicholson, professor of drama and theatre at Royal Holloway, University of London. The conference offers 61 papers, 11 workshops and 6 student performances sharing new and emerging practices, critical approaches and discourses relating to the theme. Over the 5 days of the Congress, we will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues and students from all over the world. There are more than 30 different countries represented, making it a truly international gathering. De Montfort UniversityDe Montfort University was awarded Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning status for its Performance Arts subjects in 2005 and has developed its excellence in this area under the title ‘The Centre for Excellence in Performance Arts’ (CEPA). CEPA supports excellent practice and develops innovative approaches in the teaching of Dance, Drama and Music Technology. In 2007 De Montfort University opened the new PACE Building, a superb range of studios and rehearsal spaces designed specifically for Dance, Drama and Music Technology teaching and learning activities. Congress Cultural ActivityShakespeare’s Stratford and Royal Shakespeare Company Performance Delegates of the Congress will be given the opportunity to pre-book a visit to Shakespeare’s birthplace, and a performance of King Lear in Stratford-upon-Avon by the Royal Shakespeare Company. This is an optional activity upon payment of an additional fee.
