Research

"If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it? "

Support our world leading research & teaching

Research is central to our mission as a university committed to the public good. We conduct research that impacts society and makes a real difference to people’s lives through improvements to health and well-being, infrastructure, creativity, economic growth, business and civil society. Our research programmes also have a direct and positive impact on our students, as research is fed into the curriculum through a focus on application to real-world settings and research-led work placements.

Our five key research themes reflect the range of work we undertake:

  • Peace, Equality and Social Justice

  • Net Zero

  • Living in a Digital Society

  • Lifelong Wellbeing

  • Creative and Heritage Industries

Funding research at DMU will have impact ranging from the hyper-local projects here in Leicester, through to influencing change at a global level. As the United Nations' (UN) designated Global Hub for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 - the only UK university to be designated as such – our research has a unique place in carrying their global mission to “Promote Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”. [Read about our role as a Global Hub for SDG 16 here]
