English and Creative Writing

Jump to courses Book an Open Day

Our English and Creative Writing courses will help you to explore a rich range of texts, ideas and genres while developing your own voice as a reader, writer and critic.

Engage with literature from different periods and cultures, examine how language shapes meaning, and discover new ways of expressing your ideas through creative writing. Through reading, discussion and practical writing activities, you will build your confidence, creativity and ability to communicate effectively.

You will learn from published writers and experienced academics while becoming part of a vibrant creative community. Beyond the classroom, you can engage with the Leicester Centre for Creative Writing, regional writing networks and the annual States of Independence book festival. You'll also have opportunities to draw inspiration from DMU's Special Collections, local museums and galleries, while making use of the extensive resources available through the Kimberlin Library.
