"I’m always encouraged to share my own ideas with my classmates so I feel like I’m growing as a person. The lecturers are so helpful and I’ve learnt how I can use my skills in the workplace."

–Jordan, Creative Writing student

Studying English and Creative Writing at DMU is an intellectual and imaginative adventure. You’ll explore new ideas and genres, push creative boundaries, and experiment with fresh, dynamic writing forms across a range of storytelling outlets.

Join a supportive and inclusive community of experts to share practices and passions that will challenge and change you. We value your unique perspective and will work together to develop your ideas and aspirations, whatever they may be.

You will learn from published writers and experienced academics while becoming part of a vibrant creative community. Beyond the classroom, you can engage with the Leicester Centre for Creative Writing, regional writing networks and the annual States of Independence book festival. You'll also have opportunities to draw inspiration from DMU's Special Collections, local museums and galleries, while making use of the extensive resources available through the Kimberlin Library.

Many of our courses have the opportunity for you to study a second subject as a route alongside your main subject or to learn a modern language from a level that suits your needs.
