Fashion and Textiles Applicant Taster Day activities - 14 March

An Applicant Taster Day is an unmissable opportunity to get hands-on with your chosen course. Tailored for DMU applicants and the course you've applied for, we'll be holding demonstrations, exercises and activities that give you a flavour of what you'll experience when studying here at DMU. Some sessions are subject to availability and have limited spaces, so we recommend booking early.

Below is a list of the activities running on the day for Fashion and Textiles courses. Take a look at what's going on for the course you've applied for, then book your place on the form underneath.

  1. Contour Fashion

    How to build a sketchbook
The session will clearly capture how to develop Primary research via a sketchbook and you’ll be able to see the elements to flow this progression by looking at examples of past sketchbooks. You’ll also be able to talk to current students about their work in this area.

  2. Contour Fashion Communication

    How to build a bra
This session will get you to review the 2-3D aspect of intimate apparel pattern making and physically realise this by creating a bra in paper! Current students will be on hand to question and support you.

  3. Fashion Buying

    Fashion Selection
Experience one of the many tasks of a buyer in learning how to react to trend and sales information. You will select the pieces for a fashion range for a given market and be able to justify why they are right.

  4. Fashion Communication and Styling

    Introduction to Visual Communication
In the session you will learn how to develop a concept using visuals as a starting point to build a narrative. You will also be introduced to mark making and illustration methods for fashion communications and look at research development, including understanding research and where to find it.

  5. Fashion Design

    Concept development for fashion
Using provided imagery, you will learn image analysis and then create a concept board using contemporary collage and layout methods.

  6. Footwear Design

    Design and Development for Footwear
Design development is the process of developing concept ideas to solve specific design problems, often for a target consumer. In this practical session you will be able to develop an initial fashion footwear concept through to a fully developed footwear design.
