Once you've received a verbal offer from De Montfort University (DMU), whether by phone or WhatsApp, your place on the course is reserved. A verbal offer is a genuine commitment from us, but it only becomes formally confirmed once you've added De Montfort University as your Clearing choice through the UCAS Hub.
Clearing places are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and each one includes a deadline for accepting your place at De Montfort University. Your acceptance deadline will usually be explained during your Clearing call and will also be included in your offer letter. To secure your place, make sure you accept your offer before it expires, as we may not be able to guarantee your spot after the deadline has passed.
Accepting your offer on UCAS
To formally accept your Clearing offer, you’ll need to add De Montfort University as your clearing choice on UCAS Hub For the full step by step process, see our Applying through Clearing page.
Whether you've received your verbal Clearing offer over the phone or via WhatsApp, we’ll send you a confirmation email. Make sure you check your inbox, including your junk folder.
The confirmation email will detail your next steps you and any timeframes for when you need to complete these by. This will usually include providing proof of any qualifications you mentioned over the phone and selecting DMU and the relevant course as your Clearing choice through UCAS Hub.
In some instances, there may be other conditions attached, such as submission of an electronic portfolio, you will be advised of this in your phone conversation and it will also be detailed in the email you receive from us.
You can decline an accepted offer on UCAS Hub, but once you’ve declined an offer, this is irreversible and you'll be placed back into Clearing. If it's a course change at DMU you're after, contact us first. We may be able to switch you without you needing to restart the process.
Usually, you can’t defer a Clearing offer. This is because Clearing places are for immediate entry into the upcoming academic year. If your circumstances mean you'd need to defer, get in touch and we can talk through what might be possible
How long your Clearing offer remains open depends on when you receive it. If you apply before Results Day, your offer will usually remain valid until 13 August. After Results Day, however, you may only have 24 hours to decide, as places can fill quickly. Your offer letter will confirm the deadline for accepting your place.
You can contact and hold an unlimited amount of clearing offers from universities; but each one will have a limited time in which you need to accept it, and you’ll only be able to accept one of them through UCAS.
Once you have accepted an offer through UCAS, you won’t be able to go back to your previous choice without first self-releasing back into clearing again.
