How to apply through Clearing

To apply through Clearing at De Montfort University (DMU), choose a course, contact us by phone or WhatsApp to receive a verbal offer, and then formally accept it through the UCAS Hub.

DMU Early Access Clearing opens on 8 June 2026, so you can secure your place before results day. Watch our short video guide to see how it works, or follow the step-by-step process below

Here's the full process step by step.

Step 1 - Choose your course

The best place to start applying is by browsing DMU’s full course list to explore what's available and find a course that suits your goals. Each course page includes entry requirements, so you can check whether you might be eligible before making an enquiry. Clearing vacancies will be confirmed from July, and our course list will be updated to show which courses have places available. You can also search for courses through the UCAS search tool.

If you're unsure whether you’ll meet the entry requirements for a course, it's still worth getting in touch. Our team can talk you through your options and may be able to consider your individual circumstances.

If you don't have your grades yet, don't worry. You can still receive a verbal Clearing offer now and finalise your application once your results are in.

Step 2 - Contact DMU by phone or WhatsApp

Once you’ve chosen your course, give us a call on +44 (0)116 257 7000 or message us on WhatsApp on +44 7970 655 800. Our Clearing calls page can help you get prepared, so you know what documents to have to hand and what to expect from your call.

If you meet your course’s entry requirements, you'll receive a verbal offer. This means your place on the course is reserved, but to confirm it, you'll need to add it as your Clearing choice on the UCAS Hub. You'll also receive an email from us confirming the details of your verbal offer. Verbal offers typically come with a deadline for acceptance, so make sure you know the date of this.

Step 3 - Accepting your offer

The steps to accepting your Clearing verbal offer will depend on your individual situation. In some cases, we may ask you to submit additional documents. Below are three of the most common situations you're likely to find yourself in.

  • You have a UCAS account and don’t currently hold any offers

  • You have a UCAS account and hold an offer with another university

  • You don't have a UCAS account

Step 4 - Prepare for University

Once your place is confirmed, you can start preparing for university. This includes booking your accommodation, sorting your student finance, and getting ready for September. DMU guarantees accommodation to all first-year undergraduate students.

Applying through Clearing FAQs

Can I apply through Clearing before Results Day?

Yes, you can. DMU Priority Clearing opens on 8 June and runs until 2 July, giving you the opportunity to secure your offer ahead of results day. Your offer will be conditional on meeting entry requirements once grades are confirmed.

What documents do I need to apply through Clearing?

Before you get in touch, make sure you have your personal details, UCAS ID and any qualifications to hand. If you're applying before Results Day, you'll need your predicted grades. If you already have your results, you'll need your actual A-level or Level 3 grades. Our Making Clearing calls page has more information on what you can expect from your call or Whatsapp.

How long does it take to get a Clearing offer confirmed on UCAS?

At peak times, particularly around Results Day and over weekends, UCAS Hub can take up to 48 hours to update. UCAS will email you once your Clearing Offer has been confirmed.

When to apply through Clearing?

Clearing officially opens on Thursday 2 July 2026 and closes on Monday 19 October 2026, and you can apply at any point during this time; but it's worth applying as early as possible. Popular courses fill up quickly, and the sooner you apply, the better your chances of securing a place on the course that's right for you. With DMU Priority Clearing opening on 8th June, you have the opportunity to get ahead and secure your offer before Clearing officially begins.

What if I'm not available on Results Day?

It’s strongly recommended that you make your Clearing enquiries yourself if possible. If you’re unable to call, you can also secure your Clearing offer via WhatsApp on 07970 655 800.

If you won't be available at all, you can appoint a nominated person on your UCAS application. This allows them to contact us and discuss your application on your behalf. Make sure your nominated person has your details and grades to hand. Our Tips for Clearing calls page covers everything they'll need, so the process runs as smoothly as possible.

You can still make a Clearing enquiry after Results Day, but places fill up quickly. If you wait too long, your preferred course may no longer be available.

Can I apply for Clearing with an offer?

Yes, you can. However, before you can accept a Clearing offer, you'll need to release yourself from any offer you're currently holding.

If you hold a firm unconditional place, you can release yourself into Clearing by using the "decline your place" button in UCAS Hub. It's important to be aware that doing so will place you directly into Clearing. It does not automatically transfer you to your insurance choice.

Can I apply through Clearing without UCAS?

You can secure a verbal Clearing offer without a UCAS account, but you will need to open one to accept your offer and finalise the application process.

Can I apply for the same course through Clearing?

You won't usually be able to reapply for a course where you have been unsuccessful within the same academic cycle, unless any of the information you have previously provided to us has since changed.

However, you are welcome to contact us and apply to study a different course – you can view our full list of courses available through Clearing.

Can I apply for clearing through the same university I've previously applied for?

Yes, you can. However, in most cases you won’t be able to apply for the exact same course, unless any of the information you have previously provided to us has since changed. However, you can apply for any other course you meet the entry requirements for. If you’re at all unsure, please do contact us.
