Pressure Ulcers and Wound Care: A Practical Approach

This module is designed for registered nurses who are interested in taking a practical approach to improving their underpinning knowledge around wound care and pressure ulcers. It will give nurses the confidence to implement evidence-based wound care decisions and inspire them to champion this aspect of care by empowering them in their clinical decisions and ability to enhance patient’s quality of life when living with a wound.

Underpinning theory will be taught with a combination of classroom-based sessions and clinical skills facilities, with self and peer assessments to help deliver the practical aspects of the topics covered and demonstrate a clear application of theory to practice.

The course covers a broad range of topics and will provide insight and expertise into many different specialities including, dermatology, tissue viability, vascular, diabetic foot, burns and plastics and many more to provide knowledge around underlying aetiologies within wounds. 

Ultimately, you will develop your wound care skills to a high standard and improve your knowledge around anatomy and physiology of the skin and wound healing. You will also develop your clinical competence around wound assessment and management, with a particular emphasis around problematic wounds, chronicity, pressure ulcer categorisation; prevention and management.
