Module description
(30 credits)
This module provides an opportunity for students to research a topic of their choice within the broad field of human resource management (HRM). The module differs from taught modules in that, following an introductory taught element, the emphasis is on self-directed study and research with the support of a staff tutor. The module allows students to exercise their skills in relation to the collection, analysis, evaluation, writing-up and presentation of research information.
Learning Outcomes:-
- To be able to locate, identify and appropriately summarise literature pertaining to a critical HRM area
- To understand the different methodological approaches to research in the subject area and be able to justify the approach taken
- To be able to select and apply appropriate methods of research
- To be able to analyse information and produce a theoretical discourse where appropriate
- To be able to undertake empirical research where appropriate and analyse the results
- To be able to produce a dissertation of eight to ten thousand words in a professional academic style
Contact hours per student per year
- Lectures: 6 hours
- Self study: 280 hours
- Meetings: 2 compulsory progress meetings (week 16 and 17)
- Other: Student-initiated supervisory meetings with Tutor on a need basis
