Module description

The production of a Masters level dissertation, demonstrating research informed by a critical discussion of the discipline, relevant issues and evidence, and conclusions which contribute to the disciple of accounting and finance.

The key aspects of the module are as follows:

  • To evaluate the variety of research methods available and be able to select those appropriate to a particular research topic, and to propose a relevant research design
  • Through private study and independent work to produce a sophisticated research dissertation which focuses on an area within accounting and finance
  • To demonstrate the ability to locate, identify, critically review and appropriately summarise a range of literature pertaining to a critical area of accounting and finance
  • To evidence the ability to undertake empirical research and analyse the results appropriately
  • To be able to analyse information and produce a critical discourse where appropriate
  • To develop the capacity for independent and self-managed learning
  • To demonstrate skills of critical analysis, evaluation and appraisal
  • To develop the ability to analyse, reflect and draw reasonable conclusions
