Meet the team

Jamie Bradford

School and College Liaison and Enquiries Manager

I have had the pleasure of working at DMU for 14 years undertaking a variety of roles in home and international student recruitment. I started out as a Student Advisor, specifically focussed on supporting our local network of FE colleges before moving into a supervisory role leading our operational school and college liaison activity.

Between 2010 and 2012 I spent an exciting two years as the Senior International Officer responsible for South East Asia and enjoyed recruitment visits to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

If you are planning any exotic travels I can heartily recommend all of these locations. I became a father in 2012 and returned to a UK role as School and College Liaison and Enquiries Manager where I lead all school and college activity for year 11 students and above alongside the team looking after all incoming course enquiries. The role is busy and varied with the sector changing dynamically year to year and DMU ever investing and proactively moving forward.

I am lucky to lead a team of natural communicators who all genuinely love their face-to-face work with school and college students. Our mission is to inspire, to inform and to engage and we look forward to working with yourself and your students in the future.

Faye Wickham

School and College Liaison Officer (Leicestershire and South West Midlands)

I joined DMU in 2015 and have worked in education since I graduated from university in 2009 with a degree in foreign languages. I have fond memories of my university experience, and I thoroughly enjoy advising students on the opportunities available within higher education. I am a big advocate of the benefits of studying at university and I particularly enjoy arranging on-campus visits for prospective students and giving them the opportunity to experience student life first hand.

Dalvir Uppal

School and College Liaison Officer (West Midlands)

For me, education is the ability to open up different opportunities. The further we progress, the more avenues are opened for us to explore. With that being said, I have taken my personal education all the way through from an undergraduate degree to starting my PhD study. Being born and bred in the West Midlands, it was only natural for me to support the schools and colleges within that region with my “brummie” accent.

Being an experienced lecturer I understand the diverse needs of our current students and I aim to provide support and guidance in a manner, which is easily understood. I have a genuine passion for progression and higher education, which could be useful for your institution. Should your school need any help please do get in touch.

Ben Howgill

School and College Liaison Officer (South Midlands and East Anglia)

I joined the School and College team in January 2018, coming from a Computer Science related degree into world of Student Recruitment and Support!

During my time at university, I worked with De Montfort Students' Union as a Frontrunner for our (award-winning) student media group Demon Media, where I was tasked with organising and running the student magazine and website. Alongside this, I tried my hand at television and radio presenting and production and my interest in media and communication spiraled from there.

Speaking to students and developing their interests in university and investing in their futures is extremely rewarding, and I enjoy talk to them about the benefits of university, researching their university options.

Henryk Smolinski

School and College Liaison Officer (North Midlands)

I graduated from De Montfort University in 2017 with an undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management BA (Hons). After graduating, I started out working within DMUsport as a Sports Development Assistant. However I soon realised that what I enjoy most is working with students in a face-to-face role where I can make an impact to their lives and future outcomes. I joined the School and College team at DMU in 2018 and since then I have gained over two years of experience working within student recruitment, outreach and support. I am extremely passionate about the opportunities that Higher Education can give you and I enjoy sharing the amazing university experiences that I had during my time as a university student.

During my time at university, I was lucky enough to be elected the Chairman of the DMU Men’s Rugby Club, where I helped write DMU Men’s Rugby into DMU folklore, after clinching the universities first ever cup BUCS Cup victory. I am always keen to share my own experiences during my time at university as this creates a real authentic conversation with future students and is a great way to emphasise the endless amount of possibilities that are available to students at university.

I enjoy speaking to students as there is something truly special about helping a student realise their potential. If you would like me to support your students in any way, whether this be through a talk, to represent DMU at one of your careers fairs or to host your students on campus for a Taster Day - please do get in touch.
