Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management

Overview

This highly regarded Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management offers Human Resource (HR) professionals and line managers the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to effectively manage contemporary HR issues and challenges.

As an approved Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) centre with exceptionally strong links to the Institute at national and local level, De Montfort University offers students outstanding learning opportunities and access to a team of highly experienced tutors.

The established research culture within the Department of Human Resource Management ensures that teaching is research informed and at the cutting edge of the discipline.

Structure and content

The programme is designed to map to the CIPD advanced level standards (level 7) and is fully accredited by the CIPD as meeting the requirements for associate membership of the CIPD. Successful students can upgrade to Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow, subject to relevant work experience in HRM or associated roles.

The programme is undertaken over two academic years and both January and October start dates can be accommodated.

Methods of assessment are varied to develop a range of skills and abilities; these include essays, management reports, skill based activities and examinations.

Key learning outcomes

The overarching aim of the programme is to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities of HR practitioners thus empowering them to approach people management in a more strategic, professionalised and effective manner.

Students will benefit from a greater understanding of the factors in the internal and external environment which shape human resource management principles and practices and will acquire the skills and knowledge to design, develop and embed HR strategies in a range of contemporary workplace settings.

The programme is delivered by blended learning which includes face-to-face group workshops at a location of your choice, comprehensive learning packs, a range of on-line activities designed to aid understanding and embed learning and the full support of module tutors.

The University’s virtual learning environment, Blackboard, and our personalised student portal - myDMU fully facilitate learning at a distance. In addition, students benefit from access to an extensive range of electronic databases such as Emerald, Lexis Nexis and ABI Inform via the links to the university’s Kimberlin Library.
