Athena SWAN

The Athena SWAN charter was established in 2005 with the aim of advancing equality for female staff in the subject areas of science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) in higher education and research. Due to the historical gender imbalances that have existed across a range of subjects, in 2015 the Athena SWAN charter was expanded to include arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), professional services and support roles, trans staff and students.

In 2018 De Montfort University’s commitment to addressing gender inequality was recognised with the renewal of the Institutional Bronze Athena SWAN award and is now extending its Athena SWAN objectives and activities to faculties, schools and departments.

The School of Pharmacy is now in the process of assembling an Athena SWAN application and developing a comprehensive action plan to embed the principles and objectives of the charter within the structure and processes of the School.
