Emmanuel Odumosu - Research to bring greener, more sustainable industry

emmanuel-odumosu-490-imgEmmanuel Odumosu’s research focuses on sustainability in the 11,000 companies that makes up the UK’s food and beverage industry.

The doctoral candidate’s research uses the digital technology within the framework of Industry 4.0 to measure sustainability using block chain, artificial intelligence, and radio frequency identification (RFID).

Emmanuel’s work specifically targets the digital supply chains in the food and beverage sector, not only making the businesses themselves more sustainable but also helping to reduce transportation and even printing of labels.

The UK's food and beverage industry is a significant contributor to the nation's economy, but that also means it bears a substantial environmental footprint.

Emmanuel said: “Through my research, I am exploring how digital technologies such as IoT sensors, AI-driven demand forecasting, and blockchain-enabled traceability that can optimise supply chain operations.

“These innovations not only enhance efficiency and reduce wastage but also drastically decrease carbon emissions associated with the transportation and production processes.”

Emmanuel is developing tailored metrics and assessment tools using cutting edge technologies that quantifies the sector's progress towards sustainable practices and can be harnessed to minimise economy, social, and environmental impacts and promote climate action, aligning directly with SDG 13.

Emmanuel added: “Ultimately, my research not only pioneers sustainable methodologies within the UK's food and beverage industry but also sets a precedent for global industries, showcasing the transformative power of Industry 4.0 in achieving a greener, more sustainable future.”
