New opportunities for students to travel overseas for as little as £100 thanks to the award-winning DMU Global team

Outstanding experiences in some of the world’s most stunning locations are being offered by the award-winning DMU Global team – with some trips to Europe costing as little as £100.

Applications open today for the latest round of opportunities, designed to give students the opportunities to travel and experience different cultures in cities around the globe that will enhance their studies and put them on the front foot when it comes to future employment.

Many of the trips are led by academics and give students the chance to apply their skills in new environments such as Fashion Buying in Porto, Accounting in Chicago, Film Production in Jakarta and Nursing in Amsterdam.

Students can also volunteer in destinations such as Fiji, Tanzania and Portugal or attend summer schools in South Korea and Japan.

And in this latest round of opportunities, DMU Global are offering a selection of trips costing just £100, enabling students to learn about Black history and colonialism in Amsterdam, entrepreneurship and creativity in Barcelona and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Berlin.

There are 30 different opportunities in total which are relevant to students in all four DMU faculties, with more than 600 places available.

Last summer, DMU Law student Stephanie Muthambulwa travelled to Fiji to volunteer for four weeks with the organisation, Think Pacific under the Turing Scheme – a Government initiative to widen access to overseas travel and study.

She said: “I would say to students thinking about a DMU Global trip “Go for it, you won’t regret it”.

GLOBAL - AMSTERDAM

“Even though it might seem daunting, and you may be worried about meeting new people there is always someone to talk to. In time it will soon be like home. And do things that you are afraid of - that is what aids growth!”

To help make overseas opportunities more accessible, there is a DMU Global Bursary available for successful applicants to help cover costs, amounting to £150 each for trips to Europe and £400 each for trips outside of Europe.

There is also additional financial support available for students who qualify for Widening Participation Funding, including those with disabilities, those from low-income households or students with a background in care.

The DMU Global team will be delivering a range of information sessions on Wednesday 18 January, Wednesday 25 January and Wednesday 1 February so that you can find out more. These will cover general information and application guidance, with specific sessions also exploring volunteering and summer school opportunities in more detail.
