One of the leading experts in how we interact with artificial intelligence is set to talk on behalf of De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) at one of the world’s biggest innovation events.
Professor Bernd Stahl, director of the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility at DMU, will join a debate with other AI leaders from around the world at Expo 2020, taking place in Dubai from October.
The six-month event will feature countries from around the world showing off their best innovations in technology, culture, healthcare and sustainability, along with a series of discussions and debates which aim to push forward ideas in future development.
Between 17 and 21 March 2022 an event series called ‘In the Future, How will we Advance?’ will highlight how AI can continue to benefit people across the globe while driving towards a more sustainable future.
Professor Stahl will take part in this, joining a number of other speakers to talk on topics as broad as space and how the internet and AI can shape our vision and values.
Professor Stahl said he was looking forward to the chance to address a large audience across the world at Expo 2020.
He said: “Expo is a chance to reach out to a non-academic global audience and promote the discussion of how we can make responsible use of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
“If we really want to achieve anything globally, we need to realise that our many mid-sized countries need to work together and Expo is a chance to make those connections.”
The talks Professor Stahl will take part in run across the five-day hybrid event combining in-person and virtual speakers. Alongside the socially distanced audience in attendance, the sessions will also be accessible virtually so people across the world can take part.
Another summit scheduled during the five-day period will explore how new technologies and big data can be applied to real social and environmental issues, such as healthcare, energy and climate change.
DMU is playing a major role at Expo, which will see countries all over the world present the very best science, technology, art, creativity and innovation they have.
As founding partner of the UK Pavilion – being run by the Department of International Trade – the university will have a permanent presence at the venue and is set to reveal its programme of speakers, research and other activities later this year.
