DMU experts ranked among top 2% of world's most influential scientists

Academics at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) have been recognised as some of the world’s most highly-cited scientists in a study published by Stanford University. 

Some 14 current and four past academics at DMU were ranked within the world’s top 2% of influential scientists, after researchers at the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford examined the work of more than seven million scientists across 22 subject fields between 1996 and 2019.

Taking into consideration factors such as number of citations, h-index (a numerical indicator of how productive and influential a researcher is) and co-authorship, the study aimed to minimise citation misuse as metrics of excellence by creating an index that reflects the actual global influence of academic work.  

As a result, the researchers have published a database featuring nearly 160,000 leading scientists across all major fields – from chemistry and engineering to economics and business. 

“To have our academics included in this database and recognised in this way is a great testament to the groundbreaking research taking place here at DMU, as it highlights the global influence our work is having,” said Professor David Mba, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise).  

“It is especially encouraging to see academics from a broad range of disciplines featured, representing all four of our university’s faculties and demonstrating the impactful work we conduct across so many fields.”
