Leicester Tigers give DMU students and staff a lockdown lift with online wellbeing workshops

When you are responsible for getting the best out of the elite athletes at Leicester Tigers there is no doubt you will know a thing or two about fitness and nutrition.

So, De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) was delighted when the Gallagher Premiership club offered to run virtual wellbeing workout sessions for students and staff courtesy of their professional coaches.

DMU has enjoyed a brilliant partnership with Tigers over the years which has resulted in the university's Men's and Women's First XVs playing their annual Varsity fixtures at the famous Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium, as well as student ticket offers, competitions and meet-and-greets with some of the biggest stars in world rugby.

With lockdown keeping students and staff away from the stadium for the time being, along with the physical and mental challenges that come with the pandemic, Tigers are now offering everyone at DMU the chance to take part in specialist online classes focussing on nutrition and fitness.

Tigers, who enjoyed a bonus point 41-24 win over Worcester Warriors this weekend, hope the unique wellbeing sessions will allow the DMU community to focus on their personal development and encourage positivity at a very hard time, wherever they are.

The programme will be run online over six weeks with a new session being launched every two weeks.

A Yoga session started last week while students and staff can now attend an online nutrition session from Simon Wallis, the Performance Nutritionist for Tigers and a fitness session from Adam Greenslade, Tigers' Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach, starts on Friday 12 February.

Holly Everley, Partnerships Coordinator at DMU, said: "Tigers have really gone out of their way to help our students and staff and we are incredibly grateful.
