DMU Global is giving students from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) the chance to meet up and exchange ideas with people around the world thanks to a host of virtual international experiences throughout spring and summer.
Over the last few years, the award-winning scheme has given thousands of students the opportunity to enrich their studies, broaden cultural horizons and develop key skills with overseas trips and on-campus learning.
With the global pandemic putting a stop to overseas travel, DMU Global has continued to link students up with fellow students, businesses and charities from the USA to Fiji, and everywhere in between.
Now, as the summer months approach, the team has announced details for more opportunities which students can sign up to – many of which are free or have been heavily subsidised.
They include virtual summer schools in cultural media and ICT with universities in Austria and Finland, virtual internships in Fiji and free, online conferences in Indonesia and Japan looking at global issues such as food waste and global inequalities respectively.
Applications are open now but be aware that some of the deadlines expire at 9am Monday 26 April. You can see the full details here on the DMU Global Online Learning webpage.
Leo Smith, Head of Global Mobility at DMU, said: “While travel isn’t possible, we don’t believe that should be a barrier to DMU students having international experiences.

“In co-operation with our friends and partners globally, we are able to offer some exciting summer activities that will help students to explore a range of topics and network with young people across the world.
“The deadlines to apply are fast approaching, so we recommend that you sign up as soon as possible!”
Students can also sign up to qualify to teach English as a foreign language. The Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) online course can open up a range of new opportunities and equip students with the skills and knowledge to teach non-native speakers all over the world, and costs just £50. Also, through DMU’s Confucius Institute, students can learn Mandarin for free from May onwards.
DMU Global is also linking up again with Pagoda Projects to offer a Cultural Mentoring course. Students will be paired with an overseas cultural mentor who will support them to increase cultural understanding and develop key skills in preparation for entering the job market.
