The Breathing Space is a new base of our #HealthyDMU wellbeing activities. There will be activities taking place each week which will include skills based sessions, wellbeing events and lots more.
The Breathing Space will host our new masterclasses which are available to all students on a variety of topics such as mindfulness, managing pressure effectively and building confidence. They are an opportunity to develop life skills and provide our students with the resources that will support development and studies, helping them to succeed and achieve their potential at DMU.
For more information and to book onto a masterclass please go to MyGateway and look out for more information on upcoming #HealthyDMU events.
To ensure that we direct you to the appropriate service you must first book a Single Point of Access Appointment (SPA) where your needs will be assessed. These appointments can be booked via MyGateway.
What is a Single Point of Access Appointment (SPA)?
- A 30 minute appointment
- An opportunity to discuss your situation with a member of support staff
- You will be offered advice on the day and referral to relevant support staff within student welfare
- At the end of the appointment you will be given an action plan of what to do next
Disabled Students Allowance
Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) are government support packages available to UK students who meet the criteria. They are designed to pay for the extra costs a student may incur as a result of a disability, medical condition, Specific Learning Difference (SpLD) or mental health condition which impacts on their studies.
DSAs funding is allocated to individual students and can help pay for study related support, including specialist equipment, mentoring and specialist study support.
More information on DSA is available here.
Learning to focus on the now can help to improve concentration and regular mindful practice can boost our feelings of wellbeing. At DMU we offer regular mindfulness sessions in the Breathing Space, why not come along and join us for 30 minutes and take time to slow down, relax and be in the moment?
What students have said about DMU Mindfulness:
